Plot and story

Learning objective:
In Week 6 Classwork I will: 
Compare plot situations and Storylines. 
Carry out tasks which will help to tell the difference between narrative and story within media texts. Break down techniques used by producers to hold the interest of an audience. 
Split screen narrative. Three strand narrative. Flexi narrative.

Homework Week 6: Storyboard a page of script using split screen techniques

Literacy focus: Description of narrative techniques, subsequently summarizing the positioning of audiences.

Numeracy: Design a set up for a split screen technique.

GCSE - evaluation

Learning objective:
In Week 5 Classwork I will: 
Plan a structure for my coursework evaluation. 
Complete an evaluation of my coursework production with consideration given to: Comparison with similar products, representation, narrative structure, audience appeal, organizational issues. Deadline: 4.12.2015.



Homework Week 5:

Literacy focus: Writing discursively to evaluate my own production

Numeracy: Evaluate coursework essay giving marks in line with WJEC criteria.

GCSE production coursework - deadline

Learning objective:
In Week 4 Classwork I will:
 Continue to produce my GCSE production coursework and receive feedback on how to maximize my marks. Submit a final draft of production coursework.
Deadline: 27.11.2015. Identify the aims and purposes of my coursework production with consideration given to target audience. 

Learn how to clearly express my viewpoints in preparation for the evaluation part of my coursework.

Homework Week 4:
Source similar products to my own coursework for comparison in class. Literacy focus: Submission of coursework with clear and appropriate annotation. Numeracy: Inclusion of audience data research results in coursework evaluation.

Before you begin work on the main production part of your coursework, you are required to deliver a presentation to your teacher and your peers. This presentation will help when you come to evaluate your work and can be submitted as part of your planning.

Your presentation needs to include the following:

  • What have you chosen to do for your coursework?
  • What is the target audience for your production?
  • What examples of similar work have you found as part of your research?
  • What elements of the similar work you have found have you found useful to your production?
  • What research have you done to inform your production?
  • How will you use the information from your research in your production?
  • What planning have you done to inform your production?
  • How have you considered visual codes in your planning?
  • How have you considered technical codes in your planning?
  • What have you done to appeal to your target audience?


You will each deliver a presentation on Wednesday afternoon, period 5.
Power points to be emailed to Mr Ealey when complete.

GCSE coursework production

Learning objective:
In Week 3 Classwork I will: 
Continue to produce my GCSE production coursework and receive feedback on how to maximize my marks. 
Submit a second draft of production coursework for assessment and feedback.



Homework Week 3: Research and source two examples of negative representation of young people in the Media. Describe how the texts have been constructed.

Literacy focus: Application of theory to criticize negative representation.

Numeracy: Use of rulers and grids within Adobe Photoshop to produce coursework.

Research and planning deadline

Learning objective:
In Week 2 Classwork I will: 
Submit two pieces of GCSE Media Studies research and two pieces of GCSE Media Studies planning as specified by the WJEC. Deadline: 13.11.2015.

Examine GCSE Media Studies production coursework examples in preparation for my own submission. Submit a first draft of production coursework for assessment and feedback.



Homework Week 2: Identify two examples of representation in a print based media text for comparison with my own coursework production. 
Literacy focus: Describe how representation has been used within a print based Media text.



2. Research and planning mop up

Learning objective:
In Week 1 Classwork I will:
Examine GCSE Media Studies research and planning coursework examples in preparation for my own submission. 
Receive feedback on final drafts of research and planning and be encouraged to maximise marks through appropriate presentation.
Finalise two pieces of GCSE Media Studies research and two pieces of GCSE Media Studies planning as specified by the WJEC.

You are required to submit research and planning coursework this Wednesday November 4th.
